For the past 50 years, the Saint Louis Psychoanalytic Institute has had a strong influence in training the next generation of psychiatry residents at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine Department of Neurology & Psychiatry. Paul Dewald of the Psychoanalytic Institute was instrumental in initiating a relationship with the SLUSOM Dept of Psychiatry in the 60’s when Ed Auer was Chair. From that time onward, the DNP has been deeply appreciative of St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute’s contribution to educating the psychiatry residents.
The psychoanalytic faculty has directed courses since the 1960’s. Paul Dewald taught Clinical Case Conference and Dynamic Theory and Technique over 40 years and finally retired in 2007. Courses for the - 2013-2014 year include Introduction to Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Developmental ages 6-11, Young Adulthood, Aging, Dynamic Theory & Technique, and Continuous Case Conference.
