Adult Neurology Residency Program
Adult Neurology Residency ProgramThe fully accredited Adult Neurology residency program trains physicians to become caring, competent and scholarly clinical neurologists. We encourage resident interest in clinical or basic research in the neurosciences and support aspirations for a teaching career in academia. Sixteen training positions are provided for the four-year residency program that includes an initial year of preparation, mostly in general medicine. There are 20 full-time and 13 clinical neurologists devoted to the care of patients and to the teaching of residents and medical students. The Child Neurology residency is closely integrated with this training program.
Clinical rotations for neurology residents include the highly rated Saint Louis University Hospital, a regional Veteran's Hospital, a tertiary pediatric hospital, an epilepsy unit, and a neuro-rehabilitation service in an affiliated hospital. In each participating hospital there is an active neurology consultation service. Outpatient experiences are included in three of the training hospitals, including a continuity clinic at one of them. In the final years there is specialized training in neuropathology, epilepsy, electroencephalography, neuromuscular disorders, electromyography and neuro-ophthalmology.
Daily one-hour didactic conferences are held for all residents at Saint Louis University Hospital and weekly at affiliated sites. Participation in clinical research is available to each trainee in the areas of neuro-ophthalmology, cerebrovascular diseases, epileptology, neuromuscular disorders, sleep disorders, pediatric neuro-oncology, spinal cord and neurorehabilitation.
