Dr. Walsh joined the Department of Neurology in 2004 as an associate professor of neurology and Director of the section of Child Neurology.

He is a 1973 graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina where he completed residency training in both Pediatrics and Child Neurology –interrupted by a tour of active duty as a medical officer in the United States Navy. He also completed fellowships in Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology at The Children’s Hospital in Boston and in Medical Education at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Dr. Walsh is certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics and by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in neurology with special qualification in child neurology. Prior to coming to Saint Louis University, he has served on the medical school faculties of the University of Kansas and the Medical College of Wisconsin. He has also been program director of the Pediatric Residency Program at Kansas and the Child Neurology Training Programs in both Kansas and Wisconsin.

He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the Child Neurology Society and The Professors of Child Neurology. As such, he has served on several committees including Practice; Membership; Curriculum; Legal Affairs and the Subcommittee for Education of Non-Neurologists. He is a member of the Governing Board of the SLU Medical School faculty medical practice and president-elect of the Professional Advisory Board of the Epilepsy Foundation of the Greater St. Louis Area.

His clinical practice includes general child neurology with special interests in epilepsy, childhood headache and both undergraduate and graduate medical education.
