Dr. Mithen received his M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City in 1971, and his Ph.D. in Neurobiology from Washington University in St. Louis in 1981. Subsequently, he trained as a neurology resident at Washington University in the Barnes Hospital program and graduated in 1982. He became board certified in neurology in 1985. He did fellowships in movement disorders and multiple sclerosis.
Dr. Mithen joined the staff of the St. Louis Veterans Affairs Medical Center in 1983. Currently, Dr. Mithen is the Chief of the Neurology Service at the St. Louis VAMC. Although interested in all aspects of clinical neurology, Dr. Mithen is especially devoted to the study and care of patients with Parkinson's disease and tremor for which he has established a subspecialty clinic at the VAMC.
Dr. Mithen sees patients at John Cochran VA Medical Center and the Doctor's Office Building.
